Japantown's most famous shark – the Sushi Shark – was originally created by artist Doug Wright for the SharkByte Art Project in 2002.  The Sharks were auctioned off and winning bidder Don Gagliardi donated the Sushi Shark back to the neighborhood.  The lovingly restored Sushi Shark now sits in the window at Kogura Company in Japantown.  

Tamiko Rast's watercolor painting of the Sushi Shark for the Japantown Mural Project is in honor of her Uncle Doug's creation; she remembers visiting his Japantown art studio while growing up and being inspired by his love of art and teaching. Learn more about the Japantown Mural Project here.
