The City of San Jose worked with famed sculptor Robert Graham to design a monument for Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown San Jose – the initial concept he presented was a gleaming bronze sculpture for the Mesoamerican deity. Ultimately the design changed due to disagreement, and Graham unveiled his creation without having publicly shown the final concept. The City's public art spurred attention and conversation, like controversial art tends to do.
